The wind blew and the rain fell, but about 20 of us met at the park anyway. There were grandparents, teachers, business people, retirees, and high school students. After a brief speech and time for folks to share information and their thoughts and wishes for peace -that the troops be brought home now, that funding for war be turned to funding for such things as health care and education - we walked beside Ketchikan Creek to the downtown area. All the while we called for justice, for peace, and shouted that 5 years of occupation is too many!
For the next hour or so we withstood rain and wind to stand in front of the federal building with our signs calling for impeachment and for peace. We raised our voices in song and acknowledged the drivers who honked as they drove past.
Then we headed to the cafe owned by one of our fellow marchers for cocoa, coffee, and conversation as we watched the rain fall outside.
