A student march began on campus at 3:00 and joined Stand for Peace - 5 Years Too Many, where people had gathered at 4:30 with signs and banners, on the median of Grand River Avenue just outside Michigan State University. The arrival of hundreds of students with drums and chants brought energy to those standing for peace.

Before the protest ended at 6:00, everyone gathered in a circle to read the names and home towns of Mid-Michigan soldiers who died in Iraq, including one whose grieving father was there with his son's photograph. Vigilers also read the names and ages of a sample of Iraqis who died in this war.

Counting the cost in individual lives focused everyone in that circle on the median of a busy street on the awful human cost of war.
