We had approximately 300 attendees from all ages, infants to grandparents and all walks of life, lawyers, nurses doctors, teachers, construction workers, retirees, realtors to bankers. Some with signs, some with candles and glow sticks....but all with heart and soul. Though we had lost our sound system, we had a mother of a vet explain the world her son had been confronted with as an Army Combat Medic until he was injured. He now is trying to get treatment. He has given testimony as a part of Winter Soldier and provided much material she was able to share about the death and destruction being done in our name. For the rest of the evening, there was a feeling of strong solidarity as we faced the traffic and lined the streets around the State Capitol Building. A group broke off to form a large peace symbol on the hill and sang songs.
There was no confrontation and no trouble even with a few people who came to observe that were not part of the movement but were advocates of the action in Iraq.
We had coverage in both papers, Rocky Mountain News (the more conservative of the two) and the Denver Post as well as reports on Fox 31 and the Local NBC affiliate.
We ended by 8:30 pm, the new curfew in Denver leading up to the convention. Police (4 motorcycles and three patrol cars)were there towards the end to assure that we were disbursed by their bewitching hour.
